Holocron Archives

Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete....

The Holocron Archives is a digital library management application aimed at organising your Star Wars “Holocrons”, i.e. your books, comics, films, short-stories and tv series.

We have lots of Holocrons at our possession and despite there are lots of digital library management tools out there, we decided to create our own, specifically for Star Wars fans. Far from complete, the project is in a kinda-stable state and we are already using it in production in our team.

What are Holocrons?

As mentioned above, we classify a Holocron as a piece of art (being a picture, film, comic, book, etc) that is referred to the Star Wars universe. Hence, we distinguish at the moment, between 6 different Holocron types (or classifications):

Novels
Comics
Games
Films
TV Series
Short Stories

The Holocrons come in different formats. Each Holocron type can have its own format assigned to it. At the moment, there are the following Holocron formats supported for each Holocron class:

PhysicalAffects all Holocron classes. Defines the phyisical representation of the holocron.
Audiobook – Affects Novels, Comics and Short Stories. As the name suggests its an audio version of the Holocron.
Digital – Affects all Holocron classes. It is a digital representation of the Holocron and comes in various digital formats such as PDF, TXT, etc. (The specific format of a digital holocron is currently under development)

The Holocrons have an availability status assigned to them, which reflects the real-life status of the holocron. Those statuses are:

Not Available – This status is appropriate for Holocrons that are published but not available to retrieve them in any way.
Not Published – This is for Holocrons that are announced but not yet published.
Transferring – This is for Holocrons that are on their way to your Holocron Archives
In Library – This is for Holocrons already in your Holocron Archives

Features

Out of growing list of features we want to implement, the following made it to the already released version. For major updates, this article will be updated and include new things. For the minor stuff, you can take a peek at the developer’s changelog. A list of the already contained features is below:

  • Gallery View
  • Search View
  • Single Holocron View
  • Timeline
Gallery View

In this view all the Holocrons are listed, either in a traditional table-like list format or in a tile format with covers. The gallery has different viewing options to select from. Filtering can be set between Canon and Legends, items-per-page, different Holocron classes, etc.

Timeline View

In this view the Holocrons are listed in the Star Wars Universe timeline, i.e. in the order they should be consumed (or studied) The same filtering applies as in the Gallery View, e.g. you can only list Games you have in your library, or Books that are not available, etc.

Holocron View

In this view, a selected Holocron is listed and all the relevant information is shown, information such as status, classification, era, publication date, etc. A full Holocron article is also displayed, which is previously fetched from the Wookieepedia Fan Page via the wiki API. From this view, the user has the option to edit information about the Holocron, such as status, add more formats, change the classification and the era information, or delete it.

Add Holocron

It is also possible to add new Holocrons, by fetching their initial data from Wookieepedia. The user can also define to follow the series for the Holocron, hence the Holocron Seeker Droid, will seek for the series and fetch those as well. Multiple initial formats along their statuses can be set, as well as the classification.

Last, but certainly not least, each user must login to the Holocron Archives. You can set the server in register mode, and new users will be able to register new accounts. By default this behaviour is disabled,  to prevent misuse of the service (at least until counter-measures are in place to prohibit this).

Last Word

We will try and keep this page up-to-date with up-coming news, so keep an eye out!
